This was last updated at the end of May, 2006. I've been on LJ since August, 2001.
I'm female, late 30's, American (of Irish descent), and like to spend most of my time reading. I love science fiction, fantasy, history, paganism, cross-stitch, mythology, women's studies, mysteries, gay and lesbian fiction & non-fiction, and a wide and varied assortment of other things. Periodically I get a need for knowledge on a particular subject, and I check out at least twelve books from the library. This means that I have all sorts of weird facts lodged in my brain. I like it crowded in here. ;-)
The biggest change in my life since I last updated this, is that I want to have a child. This won't be a piece of cake, due to some surgery I had to remove a benign tumor ten years ago. They also took out both tubes and one ovary. Also being almost thirty-nine doesn't help. I'm looking into alternatives, and right now egg donation IVF seems promising. I have a filter where I talk about such things specifically, so please let me know if you want to be added to it.
I've been known to chose spending money on books instead of food. Literally.
My favorite author if you forced me to choose, would probably be Barbara Hambly, but there are a hell of a lot of others, and most of them are listed in my 'Interests' field.
Some of my television fandoms from past & present: Buffy, Angel, Firefly, Doctor Who (both the classic and the series re-start in 2005), Robin of Sherwood, Alias, Star Trek, The X-Files, La Femme Nikita, Beauty and the Beast, Gargoyles, LOST, Law & Order, Farscape, Highlander, Xena-the-Warrior-Princess, Charmed, Wonderfalls, Alien Nation, Monty Python, ... and ... I'm sure I'm forgetting some important ones.
Some of my movie fandoms include (but are not limited to): Serenity, all three Lord of the Rings films, Constantine, Practical Magic, Hellboy, The Lost Boys, Labyrinth, all X-Men flicks, King Arthur, Tarzan (the Disney version), Excalibur, all Monty Python movies, When Night is Falling, Fried Green Tomatoes, The Craft, The Abyss, Terminator & 2, Titanic, all the 'Harry Potter' films, and The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe. See above, re: forgetting some. ;-)
I've written a few pieces of fanfic, and you can find most of them here, if you're so inclined. Mostly Joss-verse, with a splash of Constantine. The reborn Doctor Who series has generated quite a few plotbunnies of late, so now it also has some Whovian stuff. There are a few others scattered through my LJ, but I try to keep those posts public, and not f-locked.
Bits of my NaNoWriMo thingie for 2005 are up there as well, although they may want you to remove your eyes with a spork. Don't say I didn't warn you, and I don't provide the spork.
I have (in no particular order):
- short brown hair, which is growing out
- eczema
- thousands of books
- several edged weapons (including a very nice machete)
- blue-grey eyes
- an affinity for the moose (although my totem animal is Crow)
- pierced ears
- asthma
Two one dogs:
Beauty
a flat-coated retriever - 13 years old (she passed away May 13, 2006, exactly two years after my dog Turbo died)
- Sam [sometimes referred to here as 'Sam-the-dog-from-hell']
- an Austrailan Cattle Dog - 2 years old - more my husband's dog than mine
- clinical depression
- a red adult-sized tricycle, complete with basket and bell, named Rosinante
- several tattoos, and more in the planning stages
- a live-in-mom-in-law-with-Alzheimers
- an allergy to nuts
- an absolutely phenomenal ability to forget things, I take absentmindedness to a whole new level
- compassion, and yet an inability to express it properly
I take meds for some of the previous list, but not all. I leave it to you to guess which. ;-)
Also, I'm gay... and I'm platonically married to a man. This is an interesting and occasionally difficult situation.
I've made any number of mistakes in my life, and I am trying to make fewer in the future.
